The
newest city of Alberta, Cold Lake, was incorporated
on October 1, 2000 and was named Alberta's millennium
city. Supporting a bike trail that runs through the
former town known as Cold Lake, Grand Centre, and Medley
(the residential portion of 4 wing Cold Lake base).
Cold Lake boasts a population of approximately 12,000
residents, is the home of Canada's largest air force
base, and is the host for maple flag every year in the
summer. We host 11 countries including the United States,
Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, New Zealand, Sweden,
Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, Denmark and Canadian
Forces. We also have the NATO people here because of
the large weapons range in Cold Lake and an ongoing
pilot training program. The Cold Lake area has heavy
oil sands, natural gas and several large oil plants.
